Referees Committee sets dates for NPFL mid season fitness test, training

The Nigeria Football Federation NFF Referee Development Committee has announced dates for the mid-season physical fitness test and training program for Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL referees and FIFA badge referees, along with their assistants.

According to a circular from Hon. Sani Zubairu, Head of the NFF Refereeing Unit and a retired FIFA referee, the program will take place in Abuja from January 22 to 27, 2025, and will be conducted in two groups. Group A, comprising international referees and their assistants, will commence on January 22 with medical checks, while Group B, involving other referees, will begin on January 24 with similar procedures.

Passing both the physical fitness test and medical examination is mandatory for referees to officiate matches, ensuring they maintain the physical and medical standards required to interpret and enforce the rules of the game effectively.

This initiative also emphasizes the importance of continuous development and accountability within the refereeing community. Ensuring referees are fit to perform not only minimizes errors but also enhances the credibility of domestic leagues like the NPFL.
