Brentford set to smash transfer record with Ouattara move

Brentford are poised to smash their transfer record by signing Bournemouth winger Dango Ouattara for a fee of £42.5 million, including add-ons, according to the BBC. If the deal goes through, Ouattara will become the club’s most expensive signing, eclipsing Igor Thiago, whose move cost £30 million.

With seventeen days remaining before the transfer window shuts, Brentford remain flush with cash after offloading Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Nørgaard and Mark Flekken to Manchester United, Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen respectively for a combined €97.6 million.

A decade ago, Brentford’s record buy was Andreas Bjelland at a modest £2.1 million a figure now dwarfed by today’s fees.

The impending arrival of Ouattara repositions previous marquee signings in the hierarchy: Nathan Collins (£23 m), Kevin Schade (£22 m), Keane Lewis-Potter (£20 m), Aaron Hickey (£17 m), Kristoffer Ajer (£13.5 m), and Frank Onyeka (£8.5 m), who now drops to eighth on the list. Onyeka initially became the most expensive signing in Brentford history in July 2021 but was superseded a day later by the Ajer deal.

Onyeka, a product of FC Ebedei, has made 78 appearances for Brentford, scoring once and providing four assists. He spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Bundesliga side FC Augsburg in search of regular football.
