Emegha Handed One-Match Ban After Controversial Comments

Strasbourg have suspended 22 year old forward Emanuel Emegha for one match after what the club described as a breach of “values, expectations and rules.”

The disciplinary action follows a series of media comments by Emegha — including a remark in which he said he believed Strasbourg was in Germany before he joined the club in 2023; and a separate interview in which he implied that the club’s defeats against elite opponents earlier in the season resulted from his absence from the team.

In response to the suspension, Emegha posted on social media:

“I accept and understand the club’s decision to suspend me. I’m 22 years old; I’ve made mistakes and I know I still have a lot to learn.”

He added that he meant no offence, pledged to do better on and off the pitch and said he remains committed to the club’s cause, thanking club officials, teammates, staff, and supporters for their support.

Strasbourg’s official statement said the suspension applies to the upcoming Ligue 1 match, after which Emegha will be eligible for reinstatement.
