NFF Disburses 30% of WAFCON Prize Money to Super Falcons

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has fulfilled its promise to the Super Falcons, paying out 30 percent of the $1 million prize money the team earned for winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. Led by President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the NFF disbursed $300,000 (approximately ₦450 million) directly to the players.

The payment honours agreements made with the squad before the tournament, ensuring each player received their rightful share. Beyond the prize money, the federation also settled full camp allowances and match-winning bonuses for all players, coaching staff, and backroom personnel. Additional rewards and receptions were organised by NFF corporate sponsors following the team’s return from Morocco in July.

The Falcons’ remarkable campaign culminated in a 3-2 victory over Morocco in the final on July 26, securing a record-extending 10th continental title. Nigeria became the first beneficiary of the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) increased prize package, which doubled the champions’ reward to $1 million.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu further recognised the team’s achievement, awarding each player $100,000, national honours, and a three-bedroom apartment, underlining the government’s appreciation for their contribution to Nigerian football.

With these financial incentives and national recognition, the Super Falcons’ morale is set to soar as they prepare for upcoming international competitions, cementing their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
