Remo Stars have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League after falling 2-0 to ASFAR of Morocco in the second leg of their qualifying round. The Nigerian club, which won the first leg 2-1 at home, could not hold onto their aggregate advantage and lost 3-2 overall.
Despite a solid performance in the first half, where they held ASFAR to a goalless draw, Remo Stars conceded two second half goals, including a controversial penalty awarded after defender Ifeanyi Anaemena was penalised for tugging at an opponent’s shirt.
With this result, only two Nigerian clubs remain in continental competitions this season Enugu Rangers in the Champions League and Enyimba in the Confederation Cup, following El Kanemi Warriors’ earlier elimination by Dadje of Benin.

With great disappointment, we observe the premature exit of Remo Stars from the CAF Champions League. As the NPFL runners up, much was expected from the club, especially following their narrow victory in the first leg. However, football is a game of two halves, and Remo Stars were unable to maintain their momentum in Morocco.
The decision to award a penalty in the second half was undoubtedly contentious, and it is moments like these that highlight the fine margins that exist in football. Nevertheless, we must also reflect on the team’s performance and the need to adapt better to high pressure situations in away matches.
This elimination leaves only Enugu Rangers and Enyimba to represent Nigeria on the continental stage. While it is frustrating to see another Nigerian club exit early, we believe this setback can serve as a learning experience for Remo Stars. Their journey in the CAF Champions League may have ended, but the lessons learned could shape a stronger comeback in the future.
