Eguma Targets Federation Cup Glory as Enyimba Edge El-Kanemi Warriors

Enyimba head coach Stanley Eguma has declared his ambition to win the 2025 President Federation Cup after guiding his side to a hard fought 1-0 victory over defending champions El-Kanemi Warriors in the Round of 32. The match, held at the Bwari Stadium in Abuja, saw striker Christian Nnaji net the decisive goal in the 27th minute his first in a long spell for the Peopleโ€™s Elephant.

With the win, Enyimba now set up an Oriental Derby clash with Abakaliki FC in the Round of 16. Speaking after the game, Eguma praised his teamโ€™s resilience and Nnajiโ€™s perseverance. โ€œThis goal will boost his confidence, and I believe it will inspire him to convert more chances,โ€ Eguma said.

The veteran coach also lauded El-Kanemi Warriors for playing like true champions, describing the match as intense and competitive. Nonetheless, he emphasised Enyimbaโ€™s determination to take it one match at a time, with their sights firmly fixed on lifting the prestigious trophy for a fifth time.

Nnaji, who had endured a frustrating spell in front of goal, was visibly overjoyed. โ€œI feel so happy after the long-awaited goal. I just want the fans to keep believing in usโ€”weโ€™ll make them proud,โ€ he said.

Up next for Eguma and his team is the NPFL Matchday 32 โ€˜Abia Derbyโ€™ against Abia Warriors at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba.

Christian Nnajiโ€™s long-awaited breakthrough could not have come at a more crucial moment not just for his confidence, but for Enyimbaโ€™s campaign in a competition that defines prestige in Nigerian football. Stanley Egumaโ€™s confidence in his striker and his vision for the club is the hallmark of leadership rooted in patience and progress.

Enyimbaโ€™s narrow win over El-Kanemi Warriors signals more than just passage into the Round of 16. It reveals a side growing in grit and purpose, capable of grinding out results when it matters most. Eguma, a serial tactician with pedigree, knows exactly what is required to navigate the rigours of knockout football.

But itโ€™s Nnajiโ€™s story that most resonates. In an era where goal droughts can bury careers, his perseverance is refreshing. He didnโ€™t crumble he trusted the process. And for Enyimba, his form may be the unexpected spark they need to chase glory in both the Cup and League fronts.

As the tournament progresses, Enyimbaโ€™s ambition is clear. Theyโ€™re not here to participate theyโ€™re here to lift the cup. And with Eguma at the helm, few would bet against them.
