AMAC Celebrate Historic Win at FCT Women’s Football Tournament

AMAC Area Council have etched their name into history by clinching the inaugural FCT FA Women’s Inter-Area Councils Football Tournament title with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Gwagwalada Area Council.

Ruth Torsue scored the decisive goal in the first half, delivering a memorable victory at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Earlier in the day, Kwali Area Council secured third place, edging out Kuje Area Council 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw.

In recognition of their remarkable achievement, AMAC received a cash prize of ₦250,000, while Gwagwalada and Kwali were awarded ₦150,000 and ₦100,000 respectively.

The event also saw the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and First Vice President of WAFU Zone B, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, honoured with a Meritorious Award for his leadership in advancing grassroots football. Speaking after receiving the award, Gusau lauded the organisers and tournament sponsor Pat Ajuma Ayegba for their outstanding commitment.

Tournament sponsor Ayegba expressed pride at the competition’s success and thanked all teams and dignitaries for their contributions. FCT FA Chairman, represented by Alhaji Salihu Kolo, praised the tournament’s positive impact on female football development.

Additionally, the Minister of Women’s Affairs, represented by Alkali Suleiman, pledged ongoing support, recognising the initiative’s role in empowering young girls. Individual awards were presented, with Jimoh Kairat named MVP, Duru Blessing crowned Best Goalkeeper, and Saratu Danladi securing the Highest Goal Scorer honour.

The final was graced by numerous notable figures from Nigeria’s football and media spheres, highlighting the tournament’s significance.
