Top officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have travelled to Asaba, Delta State to support Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi ahead of the funeral rites for his late father, Mr Sunday Ndidi, in Umunede. The delegation’s presence highlights the Nigerian football family’s solidarity during the difficult time.
The funeral rites are taking place following the tragic death of Ndidi’s father, who was killed in a road accident in Umunede late last month.
The NFF contingent was led by General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi, who presented a formal letter of condolence to Ndidi on behalf of the federation. Also present were NFF Executive Committee member Rt. Hon. Nse Essien, Chairman of the Delta State Football Association Hon. Godwin Adode, NFF Director of Media & Communications Dr Ademola Olajire, and board members of the Delta FA.
The officials met Ndidi in Asaba before travelling to Umunede for the burial, conveying the grief and sadness of the entire Nigerian football community over the loss.
Mr Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, died after being involved in a fatal car accident in his hometown of Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State on January 27, 2026. His passing came just days after his son captained Nigeria to third place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
President Bola Tinubu and the Super Eagles squad have previously extended condolences to Ndidi and his family, remembering the impact Mr Ndidi had on his son’s life and career.
