The Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL has mandated all top tier clubs to establish and maintain functional websites by the end of the month. This decision, made during a one day summit for club media directors held in Makurdi, Benue State, is aimed at enhancing fan engagement and exploring new revenue opportunities.
Davidson Owumi, the NPFL’s Chief Operating Officer, stressed the importance of clubs using websites in conjunction with social media to boost their digital presence. He also announced that official letters would be sent to clubs that have yet to comply with the directive, giving them a one month window to create their websites.
Owumi encouraged club media officers to invest in their personal development, highlighting the need for continuous skill improvement to serve their clubs more effectively. Presentations were delivered by industry experts, including NPFL Director of Media, Harry Iwuala, and multimedia journalist Andrew Randa, who spoke about enhancing club media functions through multimedia tools.
Other speakers included Uche Egbe, NPFL Head of Legal and Compliance, who outlined the codes and rules guiding the conduct of club officers, and Lazarus Ibeabuchi from StarTimes, the league’s official broadcast partner. The event also featured Andrew Ekejiuba of GTI Assets Management.
The 2024/25 NPFL season is set to kick off on August 31, with reigning champions Enugu Rangers taking on Federation Cup winners El-Kanemi Warriors in the opening match.
