Shooting Stars ended a five-game winless run with a 3-1 win over Ranchers Bees in the first game of NPFL Matchday 9, played at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Friday. As reported by FootballInNigeria.com.ng, goals from Desmond Ojietefian, Damilola Akinola and Qamar Adegoke eased the pressure on coach Salisu Yusuf.

Heading into the game, the Oluyole Warriors had failed to win any of their last five league matches, losing three and drawing two. The result lifts them to 12th on 11 points.

Ranchers Bees stay on eight points and sit 17th, inside the relegation zone.

How The Goals Came

Ojietefian gave 3SC the lead in the 14th minute. Ranchers Bees levelled through Isah Ndala Aliyu in the 38th minute.

Akinola restored the lead in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, capitalising on a long throw that the visitors failed to deal with. It was his first goal of the season.

A Penalty Miss And A Late Third

The hosts had the chance to extend their lead in the 52nd minute, but Ranchers Bees goalkeeper Tofa saved Sodiq Ibrahim’s penalty. It kept the visitors in the game.

Adegoke, a substitute, settled it in the 71st minute. He dragged the ball past his marker and squeezed his shot in from a tight angle.

Relief For Yusuf

The win was only 3SC’s third of the season, but it came at an important moment. Supporters had booed Yusuf after recent outings, and club chairman Taiwo Lekan-Salami had asked fans to keep faith and act as the team’s 12th man.

Is one win enough to calm the storm? Probably not on its own, but it’s a start. Yusuf, who arrived in August, will want to turn the result into a run.

For Ranchers Bees, the defeat is another setback. The club was fined ₦5 million earlier for misconduct in a game against Rivers United, so a strong response is needed.

3SC now have a platform to build on. Matchday 9 continues across Nigeria on Saturday and Sunday.
