Finidi’s satisfaction

Rivers United technical manager Finidi George says he is pleased with how his team have handled away matches this season. The Pride of Rivers remain unbeaten in the 2026/27 EuroMatch NPFL after a goalless draw with Abia Warriors in Sunday’s Matchday 8 game at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. FootballInNigeria.com.ng reports that Finidi praised his defenders at the post-match press conference.

Finidi said the team have worked hard and have not lost a match despite being knocked out of this season’s CAF Champions League. He said the defence is doing well, but the accumulation of games is beginning to take its toll.

A point that could matter

The result leaves Rivers United second in the table with 16 points, one behind leaders Rangers on 17. Finidi said such points can count for a lot at the end of the season.

He recalled that Rivers United lost the title by a single point last season. “Last season, we lost the league title by just one point,” he said.

Off and on in Aba

Finidi described his team’s second-half display as off and on. He said Rivers United controlled the game and tried to find a goal, but it never came.

He pointed out that Abia Warriors are a difficult side and that many teams might have lost heavily in Aba. For him, taking a point there says something about the Pride of Rivers.
