Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George has expressed satisfaction with his side’s 1-1 draw away to Nasarawa United in Sunday night’s NPFL matchday four fixture at the Lafia City Stadium.
A Late Penalty Costs The Win
Rivers United had taken the lead in the 66th minute courtesy of a Harrison Ebah own goal, but Nasarawa United fought back to level matters six minutes from full time, with Musa Yakubu converting from the penalty spot.
Finidi Praises His Players Despite The Late Concession
Speaking to reporters after the match, Finidi said every game has proven difficult this season, even at home, and stressed the need to keep finding ways to collect points. He felt his players had performed well overall, but noted the side defended too deep in the closing stages, a lapse he had tried to address from the touchline before conceding the penalty. While he questioned the decision, he said the team simply had to accept the referee’s call, move on and focus on their next match.
Fourth In The Table, A Game In Hand
The result leaves Rivers United fourth in the NPFL table with seven points from three matches, and the Port Harcourt club still has a game in hand. They will next face Kun Khalifat FC in their following league outing.
