Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter has expressed his disappointment following his side’s 2-0 loss to Abia Warriors in Sunday’s NPFL encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, a result that denied the Lagos side a follow up win after their earlier derby victory over Inter Lagos.
Buter Felt His Side Deserved More
Reflecting on the home defeat, Buter admitted it was tough to take, especially in front of the club’s own supporters, but insisted the team had generally played well. He explained that pushing extra players forward in search of a goal left the side exposed at the back, leading to two mistakes that Abia Warriors punished on the counter attack.
Two Costly Moments
Buter pointed directly to the passages of play that decided the match, saying the game turned on two individual errors, one from Aliu and another from Stanley, both of which Abia Warriors exploited on the break. Outside of those moments, he felt Sporting Lagos had control of the game and looked the more likely side to score.
Taking Responsibility For The Changes
Asked about his substitutions, Buter acknowledged that hindsight might suggest different choices, but said the changes felt right given how the match was unfolding at the time, summing it up simply as part of football’s unpredictability.
