Kano Pillars technical adviser Daniel Ogunmodede has expressed satisfaction with his side’s impressive 4-1 victory over Doma United in Sunday’s NPFL matchday four encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium, a result that handed the league leaders their first defeat of the season.
Pillars Dominate From The Start
Abdullahi Musa opened the scoring for Kano Pillars in the 20th minute. Rabiu Ali then missed a chance to double the lead from the penalty spot nine minutes later after Ahmed Musa was fouled in the box, but the midfielder made amends soon after, doubling Pillars’ advantage in the 33rd minute.
Doma United responded after the break, pulling a goal back through Sadiq Rilwan in the 53rd minute to threaten a comeback. Kano Pillars answered emphatically, however, with Ahmed Musa and Nasiru Salihu both finding the net to seal a convincing 4-1 win for the hosts.
Ogunmodede Praises A Hard-Fought Win
Speaking to the club’s media, Ogunmodede admitted he had expected a difficult encounter against a Doma United side that had won all three of their opening matches without conceding, but said the team had prepared thoroughly, helped by having a free weekend beforehand to focus fully on the opponent.
Tactical Tweaks After Conceding
The coach also explained the adjustments made after Doma United pulled a goal back, saying the team leaned on its strengths and aimed to build a cushion in the first half. He noted that conceding after the break created pressure, prompting him to bring on fresh legs in midfield and attack to stop Doma’s centre-backs from progressing the ball forward.
