The Super Eagles will begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Madagascar.

The opening fixture is set for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Wednesday, 23 September. Eric Chelle’s side will then travel to face Guinea-Bissau on Sunday, 27 September. Tanzania complete the four-team qualifying group.

Matchday Fixture Date Venue
1 Nigeria vs Madagascar Wed, 23 September Uyo
2 Guinea-Bissau vs Nigeria Sun, 27 September Away

Favourites On Paper

Nigeria head into the qualifiers as strong favourites to top the group, given their pedigree in African football. The three-time African champions finished third at the last AFCON, hosted by Morocco. Chelle’s side were last in competitive-adjacent action in June, when they faced Portugal in an international friendly.

Building Toward September

The Super Eagles will be looking to open with maximum points against Madagascar in Uyo before turning their attention to a tougher away test in Guinea-Bissau, as Chelle continues shaping his squad ahead of the new qualifying cycle.
