The 2026 NWFL Nationwide Championship got off to an explosive start in Aba, Abia State, with four opening-day fixtures producing 24 goals and not a single draw among them.

C2E’s Ten-Goal Statement

The standout result came in Group B, where hosts C2E Sports Academy thrashed Bayelsa Princesses FC 10-1. Ohuche Agnes opened the scoring inside two minutes and went on to complete a five-goal individual haul, while Nwaboghogu Oluchi and Ogu Stella both scored twice and Temple Glory and Ngozi Miracle added further goals. Amameniye Naomi grabbed a late consolation for Bayelsa Princesses.

Tight Contests Elsewhere

In Group A, Solo Wonders Babes FC edged Spunky Blazers FA 2-1, with Ndiribe Chinenye scoring twice inside the opening 18 minutes before Enabulele Mercy’s second-half reply proved too little for Spunky Blazers. Onimarg FC opened their Group C campaign with a 3-1 win over NAF Queens, Yusuf Islamiat scoring twice early on before Ogunlari Adewunmi added a late third; NAF Queens’ goal came via an own goal from Olufisayo Daleborah.

The most dramatic tie came in Group D, where Obosa Queens held on to beat Plateau United Queens 3-2. Obosa raced into a three-goal lead through Nnachi Chinemerem, Oprah Emmanuel and Aliu Rofia, before Plateau United mounted a late fightback through a Okoloko Juliet brace. Obosa’s Oliwo Towin was sent off in the 86th minute after picking up a second yellow card, but the hosts held on for the win.

Group Result
A Solo Wonders Babes 2-1 Spunky Blazers FA
B C2E Sports Academy 10-1 Bayelsa Princesses
C Onimarg FC 3-1 NAF Queens
D Obosa Queens 3-2 Plateau United Queens

A Promising Start To The Promotion Race

With only the top two finishers overall earning promotion to the 2027 NWFL Championship, every result in this 12 club tournament carries weight. If Matchday 1’s goal tally is any indication, the race for promotion out of Aba looks set to be a highly competitive one.
