Super Falcons forward Rinsola Babajide has congratulated Cameroon on winning their first ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.

Cameroon cruised to a 3-0 win over tournament debutants Malawi in Sunday’s final in Rabat. Marie Ngah Manga headed the Indomitable Lionesses into a 20th-minute lead, before Naomi Eto doubled the advantage with a stunning volley in the 30th minute. Eto then turned provider in first half stoppage time, rounding Malawi goalkeeper Mercy Sikelo to tee up Ngah Manga’s second of the game, her fifth goal of the tournament.

A Gracious Message Despite Nigeria’s Own Difficult Campaign

Reacting on her X account, Babajide simply wrote: “Congrats to Cameroon for winning the WAFCON.”

The gesture comes at the end of a painful tournament for Nigeria, who failed to defend their WAFCON title and missed out on World Cup qualification for the first time in the competition’s history. Babajide featured in some of the Super Falcons’ games during the campaign.

Malawi’s Fairytale Falls Short

Malawi, the lowest-ranked side at this year’s WAFCON at 153rd in the FIFA world rankings, reached the final on the back of the attacking prowess of sisters Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga, but the duo were well contained by Cameroon’s defence on the day, denying the Southern Africans a fairytale finish to their unexpected run.

Cameroon, Malawi, hosts Morocco and Algeria have all secured automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup as a result of their WAFCON semi-final finishes, while South Africa and Ghana still have a route to the tournament via the intercontinental play offs.
