The planned friendly between Nigeria’s Super Falcons and Ghana’s Black Queens has been called off, according to a statement posted on the Super Falcons’ official X account.
The match had been lined up as part of both teams’ preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, with the Super Falcons’ account citing unforeseen circumstances behind the cancellation, without giving further detail.
The friendly was intended as a final tune up before the tournament proper, which runs from July 26 to August 16 and also serves as Africa’s qualifying competition for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The top four teams at WAFCON 2026 will earn automatic World Cup qualification, with two further sides advancing to an intercontinental play-off.
Nigeria, the defending champions, remain in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt, and Malawi, while Ghana have been drawn in Group D with Cape Verde, Cameroon, and Mali. Justine Madugu’s side will still open their title defence against Malawi on July 28, before facing Zambia on August 1 and closing out the group stage against Egypt on August 5.
