Super Falcons forward Chiwendu Ihezuo has reaffirmed the team’s determination to successfully defend their title at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Justine Madugu’s side will be chasing a record extending 11th continental crown when the tournament gets underway later this month, with Morocco hosting the competition for the third successive edition. Beyond lifting the trophy, the Super Falcons are also aiming to secure a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted by Brazil.

Speaking to the Nigeria Football Federation’s official website, Ihezuo said this year’s tournament will be considerably tougher than the last edition, since a World Cup ticket wasn’t on the line the last time around. She stressed that every team at this year’s competition will be fully focused on securing a place at the global tournament from the opening whistle on July 26, warning that Nigeria, as defending champions, cannot afford to be overconfident.

Ihezuo also addressed the extended injury layoff that had kept her sidelined, confirming she has fully recovered and is ready to contribute to the squad’s campaign. She said she is currently in pre-season with her club, Mexican side Pachuca, but is fully prepared to link up with the Super Falcons in Morocco.
