OGC Nice sporting director Roger Ricort has confirmed that Terem Moffi is expected to leave the club permanently this summer, ending any uncertainty over the Nigerian striker’s long term future at the club.

Moffi spent the second half of last season on loan at Portuguese champions FC Porto after falling out of favour at Nice. He had sought a move away from the club following an incident last November in which he and teammate Jeremie Boga were confronted by angry supporters after a defeat to Lorient. Boga has since secured a permanent move to Juventus after his own loan spell with the Italian giants.

Porto, however, opted not to trigger the roughly €8 million purchase option in Moffi’s loan agreement, sending the striker back to Nice for pre-season with his situation still unresolved.

Speaking to French outlet Get French Football News, Ricort made clear the club now considers Moffi one of the players it wants off the books, saying he expects the forward to be transferred elsewhere before the window closes. He was careful to draw a distinction between the club’s relationship with Moffi personally and its obligations to him as a professional, adding that Nice will continue to treat him and his representatives properly until a deal is found, and that both sides will part on good terms once a new club is agreed.

Despite the uncertainty hanging over his future, Moffi resumed pre-season training with Nice’s squad on Wednesday, continuing to work with the team while the club looks to finalise his departure.
