Nigerian Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga has been acquitted of sexual assault by Norway’s Frostating Court of Appeal, according to Complete Sports. The 19 year old had been out of action for 11 months while the case was ongoing.
Daga was previously found guilty by the Romsdal District Court, which handed him a six month prison sentence and ordered him to pay legal costs. That conviction has now been overturned by the Court of Appeal, which cleared him of the charge.
Molde FK Statement
Daga’s club, Molde FK, addressed the ruling in a statement on their official website, confirming that he is now available for selection while both parties await a final judgement. Club CEO Vegard Storvik described the period since the case began as demanding for everyone involved, and said the club had approached the matter with care for all those affected.
The club added that it had made ongoing assessments throughout the case in line with its responsibilities as an employer, and that with the acquittal now confirmed, Daga would be available to represent Molde FK going forward.
