Warri Wolves FC have been queried by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) over the suspension of their head coach, Napoleon Aluma. The league, in a letter signed by COO Davidson Owumi, directed the club to submit the contracts of all technical and management officials within 24 hours.
The NPFL claimed that reports from the media indicated that the Delta State Sports Commission had suspended Coach Aluma with immediate effect. However, the club has not submitted his contract, or those of other officials, to the League Board something the NPFL says is required under the 2025/26 NPFL Framework and Rules (Sections B, Articles 6 & 11).
The league warned that failure to comply could result in the clubโs technical team being barred from accessing the technical area during matches.
Editorial
We believe the NPFLโs concerns in this case are well-founded. Professional leagues thrive on clarity and adherence to protocol. When clubs bypass formal processes especially around contract registration they risk undermining not just discipline, but fairness and accountability in the sport. If rules are ignored or unevenly enforced, the competitionโs integrity suffers.

Warri Wolvesโ recent underperformance likely added urgency to this matter. Suspension of a coach is a serious stepย perhaps justified by results but it must follow due process. Coaches, technical teams, and club management must all operate under the same rules. When deviations occur, the response must be proportional and transparent.
This situation is also a reminder for all NPFL clubs: compliance is not optional. Technical and management staff contracts are not administrative formalities; they are foundational documents that define responsibilities, expectations, and legal protections. The threat from the NPFL of removing the technical bench from matchdays is severe but within the leagueโs regulatory powers if the framework spells out such consequences.
We expect Warri Wolves to act swiftly. Submitting the necessary contracts will calm the situation, but the club must also ensure that internal governance meets professional standards. For local coaches and staff, this episode carries lessons about accountability and the importance of being technically and legally prepared. Ultimately, adherence to rules ensures stability not just for one club, but for the league as a whole.
