Cyriel Dessers has finalised a transfer from Rangers to Greek giants Panathinaikos for a reported €5 million. The 30 year old striker departs with two years remaining on his contract but has found a new chapter in Athens, where he joins as a replacement for Fotis Ioannidis.
Dessers carried the Rangers scoring burden across two campaigns, netting 52 goals in 115 appearances. Panathinaikos officially confirmed his arrival ahead of the 2025–26 season.

We see Dessers’ departure as much more than a mere transfer it’s the closing stroke of a turbulent yet prolific chapter. His time at Rangers was marked by headlines and numbers, yet he never fully bolstered the fans’ confidence. This move, then, offers both parties a clean, purposeful fresh start.
We acknowledge that Panathinaikos are making a calculated investment not only in his goals, but in experience, physical presence, and the kind of European pedigree that can rally a season. Dessers embodies that intensity and delivery.
We also see this as a pragmatic reset for Rangers. While some criticized his inconsistency, his contribution with over 50 goals cannot be dismissed. The sale refocuses their strategy and funds reinforcements—such strategic reshaping is the hallmark of clubs with ambition.
We believe Dessers now steps into a place where expectations are measured differently. Greece offers an arena to be hero again, to write a redemption arc defined not by pressure, but by possibilities. And so, we return to our opening thought change, when embraced confidently, often reveals better horizons.
