Nigeria international Kenneth Omeruo has signed for Romanian top-flight club CFR Cluj following the end of his contract with Turkish outfit Kasimpasa. The 31 year old centre-back, who last featured for Kasimpasa before mutually terminating his deal in early 2025, is now set to bolster Cluj’s defence as they prepare for the next Liga I season.
Omeruo will bring a wealth of experience to his new side. He began his European journey at Chelsea’s academy in 2012 before loan spells at clubs including ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough and Kasimpasa. He then moved permanently to Leganés in 2019, racking up 86 league appearances, before returning to Kasimpasa in 2023.
Internationally, the defender has been a cornerstone for the Super Eagles since his debut in 2013, earning over 68 caps. He was part of Nigeria’s victorious 2013 Africa Cup of Nations side and also featured at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.

Editorial
We welcome Kenneth Omeruo’s move to CFR Cluj as a strategic step for both player and club. For Omeruo, this transfer offers stability after a tumultuous period involving injuries and contract uncertainty at Kasimpasa. Cluj’s proven domestic form and European ambitions provide the perfect stage for him to rediscover consistency and impact.
His journey from Premier League hopeful at Chelsea to a seasoned professional across Europe is testament to his resilience and adaptability. Cluj gains a defender brimming with leadership and international pedigree, adding depth and calm to their backline.
Cluj’s track record runner-up in Liga I and Cupa României winner creates a winning environment ideal for Omeruo’s ambitions. His tactical discipline and presence align with what manager Dan Petrescu seems to demand: strength at the back, experience in European competition, and a model professional attitude.
We believe this pairing holds promise. Omeruo’s career can find new momentum in Romania, while CFR Cluj enhance their defensive options. Their complementary needs signal a partnership built on mutual confidence and shared goals.
