Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has voiced her confidence that Nigeria will put up a strong performance at the upcoming 2024 Womenโs Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. The Atletico Madrid forward shared her optimism following a morale-boosting 2-0 friendly win over Cameroon in Abeokuta, where she scored both goals.
With the tournament set to kick off next month, the nine-time champions are aiming to reclaim their crown under the leadership of head coach Justine Madugu. Nigeria have been drawn into Group B, where they will face Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.
โRight now, the mood is positive,โ Ajibade said after the friendly. โEven though there are back and forth distractions, we understand the responsibilities that lie ahead. As players, itโs an honour to play for the nation. Weโre positive, weโre excited, and weโre looking forward to the tournament. Of course, we will give our best as always.โ
Ajibadeโs remarks reflect a sense of purpose in the squad as they look to reinforce their dominance on the continent and bring home a record-extending 10th title.

We believe Rasheedat Ajibadeโs upbeat outlook is exactly what the Super Falcons need ahead of WAFCON 2024. Confidence breeds success, and coming from the captain herself, it sets a tone of belief, purpose, and unity in the camp.
Nigeriaโs pedigree in womenโs football is undisputed. But recent years have seen stiffer competition from rising African teams. This yearโs tournament will not be a walk in the park, which makes Ajibadeโs leadership both timely and critical.
What stands out is her acknowledgement of โback-and-forth distractionsโโa subtle nod, perhaps, to off-pitch uncertainties. Yet she doesnโt dwell on them. She points forward, focusing the narrative on responsibility and pride.
We support that mindset wholeheartedly. It is not just about reclaiming a title itโs about reminding the continent that Nigeria still sets the standard. When the captain leads with conviction, others follow. And with Ajibade in form and in charge, the Super Falcons are more than contenders theyโre a statement waiting to be made.
