Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has voiced her confidence that Nigeria will put up a strong performance at the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. The Atletico Madrid forward shared her optimism following a morale-boosting 2-0 friendly win over Cameroon in Abeokuta, where she scored both goals.
With the tournament set to kick off next month, the nine-time champions are aiming to reclaim their crown under the leadership of head coach Justine Madugu. Nigeria have been drawn into Group B, where they will face Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.
“Right now, the mood is positive,” Ajibade said after the friendly. “Even though there are back and forth distractions, we understand the responsibilities that lie ahead. As players, it’s an honour to play for the nation. We’re positive, we’re excited, and we’re looking forward to the tournament. Of course, we will give our best as always.”
