Club Brugge Targeting Nigerian Winger Akere in Summer Move

Belgian top-flight giants Club Brugge are reportedly in talks to sign Nigerian winger Samuel Akere from Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv as the summer transfer window approaches.

According to reports from Africafoot, initial contact has already been made between Brugge and the playerโ€™s camp. Akere, 21, has impressed with five goals in 32 matches across all competitions this season, including four in Bulgaria’s top division.

With just one year remaining on his current deal, Akere is believed to be open to a move and has reportedly turned down an offer to extend his contract. Botev Plovdiv may therefore be willing to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him for free in 2026.

The Nigerian winger, currently valued at โ‚ฌ1 million on Transfermarkt, is attracting attention from multiple European clubs, but Club Brugge are said to be leading the race, having already reached out to his entourage.

If the move materialises, Akere would join fellow Nigerian Raphael Onyedika at Brugge. Before joining Botev Plovdiv, Akere played for Russian side FDC Vista Gelendzhik.

Editorial

For every Victor Osimhen lighting up the Champions League, thereโ€™s a Samuel Akere quietly making waves, steadily climbing. Thatโ€™s the beauty of Nigerian footballโ€™s depth, and Club Brugge seem to understand this very well.

Akere may not yet be a household name, but make no mistake: this is a winger with purpose, pace, and promise. Five goals in a competitive European league as a 21-year-old is more than a number itโ€™s a signal. It shows readiness for a higher challenge, and Club Brugge, with their keen eye for emerging talent, may be the perfect platform for that next step.

We appreciate Akereโ€™s calculated approach. By declining an extension at Botev Plovdiv, heโ€™s expressing both ambition and intent. Heโ€™s not just chasing bigger paychecks heโ€™s positioning himself in a league known for player development and Champions League exposure.

Whatโ€™s more inspiring is how Nigerian players are now influencing club decisions across Europe not just filling quotas but shaping futures. If Brugge land Akere, it wonโ€™t just be a smart transfer itโ€™ll be another chapter in the ongoing story of Nigeriaโ€™s global football imprint.
