Nigerian Forwards from Top European Clubs Make List

Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha, Manchester United’s Chido Obi, and Monaco’s George Ilenikhena all feature on this prestigious list, showcasing the bright future of Nigerian football talent on the global stage.

The highest ranked Nigerian is Ethan Nwaneri, who sits impressively in sixth place. The youngest player to ever debut in the Premier League at just 15, Nwaneri has become a key figure for Arsenal at 17, stepping up during injury crises with skill and powerful finishing.

George Ilenikhena takes the 21st spot. The 18 year old made headlines by becoming the youngest Nigerian-born player to score in the UEFA Champions League for Royal Antwerp at just 17 years and 119 days. Monaco’s investment of €20 million to sign him has already paid off, with six goals and two assists in 28 matches.

Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha, ranked 42nd, has impressed by becoming the club’s youngest-ever first-team starter in January 2025 at just 16. Regularly training with Arne Slot’s senior squad, he is tipped for more first-team opportunities soon.

Completing the quartet is Manchester United’s Chido Obi, placed 50th. Obi holds the record as the highest-ever goal scorer in the U18 Premier League, netting 37 goals in 26 appearances. After rejecting a scholarship at Arsenal, he joined Manchester United, where he’s already made senior debuts in the Premier League and FA Cup under manager Ruben Amorim.
